Must-Have Items for Captain Build

How to Unlock Build Components
Some items in this Captain Torch Captain build require unlocking before they can be used. Note that items listed in "Avoid" sections are also shown here - check the build details to see if unlocking them is necessary for this strategy.

Early Game (waves 1-5)
Torch and flame spreading is the name of the game for this build, focus on getting up to around 50 harvest within the first 3 waves from level ups, as this will greatly benefit from the captains exp boosts over time. Try to combine torches you get as much as possible to get a Tier 3 torch. At tier 3 a torch grants additional burn spread which greatly helps compensate for having only 1 weapon and taking advantage of the captains passive exp gains from having less weapons, 2 torches is all you will need until around wave 15.

Mid game
Make sure to balance your offense and defensive gains with the captain, with a good torch and some elemental damage increases from either items and level ups you wont struggle much to clear waves, so it comes down to what you need more. If you are clearing waves without issue, then get as many defensive options as you can. Try to get a little bit of luck to benefit from more fruit and item drops as well as trying to get some of the higher tier Items that can greatly improve you defense. Try to get a little bit of reach, hovering between 60-100 reach will generally make applying your fire much safer, and contribute to keeping you alive ultimately.

Late game (wave 15+)
Once you reach Wave 15 onward, you can generally just forgo the exp boost from having less weapons and just fill up your weapon slots. Picking up weapons like more torches or flamethrowers that specifically apply burning to take advantage of any burn spreading you have picked up and Elemental damage you have gained, are your best bet. try avoid grabbing weapons that outright kill enemies as it will be more of a hinderance to your burn spreading.

Avoid Items
Try to avoid Crit items as torches simply cannot crit, so they are a complete waste to pick up in general. Also avoid items that trade off defence for damage %, the vast majority of your damage is going to come from your Elemental damage, so its not that important to stack massive amounts of damage %, especially if it comes at the cost of your defensive stats.

Special mention
Scared Sausage is usually a corner stone in elemental based builds, however, it doesn't really do anything when using torches so its honestly not a requirement for this build. That being said, picking this up comes as a situational pick up that depends a lot on rng. If the gods of rng have blessed you with a significant number of turrets, landmines and trees and you happen to get a pocket factory along the way, well, these can be extremly useful at spreading fire as they will all benefit from scared sausages chance to apply burning, which can make for a pretty crazy amount of map wide fire spread. But like I say, its kinda situational if you get a lot of these items, other wise it basically doesnt help your torches at all.
