Brotato Chunky Build Guide – Best HP & Explosive Build
Der beste Chunky HP- und Explosiv-Build in Brotato
Is Chunky good in Brotato?
Chunky is a very strong, tanky character that scales damage directly from Max HP and turns consumables into huge sustain. He is slow and cannot use life steal or strong dodge well, but with the right HP and armor scaling he can comfortably clear high-difficulty runs.
Strengths
- Excellent HP scaling: every point of Max HP increases both survivability and damage.
- Consumables are very strong thanks to bonus healing and synergy with items like Extra Stomach.
- Max HP modifications are increased, making HP items and Ghost Scepter upgrades more valuable.
- Naturally suits explosive and AoE-focused builds that reward facetanking and tight movement.
Weaknesses
- Speed modification penalty makes him extremely slow and punishes kiting playstyles.
- No access to life steal and heavily reduced HP regeneration and dodge scaling.
- Requires disciplined item selection to avoid HP caps, armor loss and consumable debuffs.
- Mid-game can be very dangerous before HP, armor and damage fully come online.
Chunky Stats & Passive Ability
Chunky is built around stacking as much Max HP as possible and turning that health pool into both damage and survivability. Because Max HP modifications are increased and every 3 Max HP gives +1% damage, HP items and effects like Extra Stomach and Ghost Scepter scale much harder on him than on standard characters. His +3 consumable healing also makes fruits and consumable-focused builds extremely efficient. However, he cannot rely on usual defensive layers like life steal, dodge or high speed. HP regeneration and dodge scale poorly, and speed upgrades do nothing, so Chunky prefers a slow, juggernaut playstyle that charges through enemies, tanks hits with high armor, and heals via consumables. Builds that emphasize HP, armor, consumable value, and sometimes explosions or HP-scaling weapons are the most consistent way to leverage his kit.

Strategy
🌱Early Game (Waves 1–6)
The early game focuses on rushing six Choppers, stacking Max HP and boosting consumable power. Prioritize Tree spawns and consumable-related items, and funnel every level-up into HP. Once you have six Choppers, keep rolling aggressively to find more HP and Luck while picking up key fruit and pickup-range synergies.
⚡Mid Game (Waves 7–13)
The mid game is the danger zone where Chunky may not yet one-shot bulky enemies and fruit density is lower. Continue prioritizing Max HP from items and level-ups, but start layering armor so you can push through packs to reach fruits. A bit of speed and attack speed from items like Crystal, Coffee or Community Support are helpful, but do not over-invest at the expense of HP. Aim to reach high HP (around 100+), reasonable armor, and enough attack speed before committing to elite or boss kills during waves.
🔥Late Game & Danger 5 Bosses (Wave 14+)
In late waves, lean fully into HP scaling and explosions. Take every strong HP and armor item while grabbing explosive effects like Dynamite, Plastic Explosive, Spicy Sauce and Rip and Tear so that fruits and enemy deaths constantly trigger AoE damage. With 200+ Max HP, solid armor and strong consumable healing, you can run through packs, chain fruits and let explosions clear the screen. Focus on positioning to path from fruit to fruit and keep your HP high while bosses and elites melt from sustained contact and AoE.
Best weapons for Chunky
Chopper directly amplifies Chunky’s consumable-focused kit by increasing health healed from fruits. In the MukBoomer Danger 5 build, stacking multiple Choppers lets you sprint from fruit to fruit, sustaining massive HP while your HP-based damage scales.
Ghost Scepter is a natural fit for Chunky, converting kills into permanent Max HP which then boosts both survivability and damage. In the Endless "exponantial chunk" build it’s used to snowball health every wave while Chunky’s passive multiplies its value.
Spoon pairs well with Chunky in HP-scaling cursed setups: you can tank hits while Flamethrower applies burns and Spoons always crit against burning enemies. With enough HP, armor and attack speed, cursed Spoons deliver very high sustained damage.
Flamethrower supports HP-based melee builds by blanketing enemies in burns, enabling guaranteed crits for Spoons and softening large packs for a slow, tanky Chunky. It also works well with explosive and on-hit effects.
Best items for Chunky (core item pool)
Extra Stomach is one of the strongest Chunky items, turning every excess fruit into permanent Max HP. Combined with his increased HP modifications and consumable healing, it rapidly scales both damage and tankiness, especially in fruit-heavy builds like MukBoomer.
Garden spawns additional fruits over time, which Chunky converts into huge healing and, with Extra Stomach, extra Max HP. More fruits also fuel Cauldron and Spicy Sauce in explosive HP builds.
Tree increases tree spawns, indirectly boosting fruit generation, crates and shop economy. In multiple Chunky builds it is a top-priority pickup to multiply consumables and event chances early.
Metal Plate is a clean source of armor with only a small damage penalty, perfect for a character whose damage comes mostly from Max HP. High armor lets Chunky safely push through enemies to reach fruits.
Alien Eyes adds automatic AoE damage around a slow, tanky Chunky. It pairs well with HP-stacking builds where you fight in close range and want extra passive damage while you hunt fruits.
Fish Hook enables cursed Spoon setups by turning locked weapons into cursed versions. Chunky’s high HP and armor let him handle the added risk while benefiting from the big damage spikes of cursed weapons.
Dynamite boosts explosion damage, fitting perfectly into the MukBoomer concept where consumables and on-death effects cause frequent explosions while Chunky tanks enemies up close.
Plastic Explosive increases explosion radius so Chunky’s explosive items and effects clear larger packs. This is especially strong when you’re constantly picking fruits and body-blocking enemies in Danger 5.
Spicy Sauce gives Max HP and adds explosions to every fruit you pick up. On Chunky, this double-dips: you heal more, gain HP from Extra Stomach, and trigger frequent AoE damage as you path fruit-to-fruit.
Cauldron synergizes with Chunky’s consumable game plan by increasing pickup range and giving a big temporary damage boost whenever you grab a fruit, letting your HP-based damage spike repeatedly each wave.
Crystal helps offset Chunky’s naturally slower feel by ramping up attack speed during waves. It works well when you have enough armor and HP to avoid frequent hits, turning your Choppers or other weapons into faster fruit-farming tools.
Weird Food is ideal on Chunky, who already has weak dodge scaling but loves extra consumable healing. The dodge penalty is negligible while the extra HP per fruit greatly improves sustain and synergizes with consumable-focused strategies.
Chunky Danger 5 Strategy
Early Game
In early Danger 5 waves, prioritize stabilizing your economy while setting up HP scaling. Rush your core weapons (especially multiple Choppers in MukBoomer) and buy Tree and Garden to increase fruit spawns. Take every solid Max HP roll on level-ups and pick early armor only if it comes in large chunks. Avoid items that cap or reduce Max HP, reduce consumable power or permanently drain armor.
Mid Game
Mid game is the most dangerous part of Danger 5 for Chunky. You may not yet one-shot large enemies and fruit density can feel low. Keep stacking HP from items like Extra Stomach, Broken Mouth, Defective Steroids or Little Muscley Dude, and start layering armor via Metal Plate, Helmet and Warrior Helmet. Add auxiliary stats like attack speed (Coffee, Crystal, Community Support) and a little speed or pickup range only if they do not compete with strong HP rolls. Play waves by carefully pathing from fruit to fruit instead of trying to clear every elite on sight.
Late Game
In late waves, you should have very high HP and solid armor, allowing you to facetank most enemy hits. Lean fully into HP and explosive synergies: Dynamite, Plastic Explosive, Spicy Sauce, Rip and Tear and Alien Eyes turn your close-range pathing into massive AoE damage. Keep picking consumable-boosting and fruit-generating items so your Extra Stomach continues to add Max HP. Against Danger 5 bosses, focus on staying near fruits, keeping armor high, and letting your HP-based damage and explosions slowly grind them down.
💡 Chunky’s Danger 5 gameplan is to snowball Max HP from the very first waves, convert that health into damage, then layer enough armor to comfortably walk through enemies hunting fruits. Early game is about getting the right weapons and HP items online, mid game is about surviving the power trough with careful positioning and defensive pickups, and late game is where your stacked HP, armor and explosions let you safely clear elites and bosses.
Chunky FAQ
1How do I unlock Chunky in Brotato?▼
Chunky is unlocked by dying for the first time. Once you have at least one death in any run, Chunky becomes available as a playable character.
2What are the best weapons for Chunky?▼
Based on the most popular builds, Chopper is the premier Danger 5 weapon thanks to its consumable healing synergy, while Ghost Scepter excels in Endless runs by converting kills into permanent Max HP. Spoon supported by Flamethrower is also strong in cursed HP builds, providing guaranteed crits against burning targets.
3Which stats should I focus on for Chunky?▼
Max HP is the top priority because it boosts both survivability and damage via his passive. After HP, stack armor so you can safely move through enemies, then add attack speed and a bit of Luck for more fruits and shop value. Dodge, life steal and speed are generally low priority or inefficient due to his penalties.
4Which items should I avoid on Chunky?▼
Avoid items that cap or permanently limit Max HP, reduce consumable healing or remove armor every wave. In the MukBoomer build, items like Handcuffs, Ashes, Blood Donation, Shackles, Fairy, Alien Worm reductions and similar effects are called out as things to skip, since they undermine Chunky’s HP and armor-focused gameplan.
5Is Chunky good for Endless mode?▼
Yes. Several builds, such as "exponantial chunk" with Ghost Scepter and "Chunky's Spoon Supremacy", are tailored for Endless. Chunky scales extremely well into very long runs because his Max HP can grow without a hard cap, continually increasing both tankiness and damage.
Similar Brotato characters

Golem→
Golem, like Chunky, heavily amplifies Max HP modifications and leans into tanky, armor-based play. Both characters reward stacking health items, but Golem trades all healing for conditional speed and attack speed when hurt.

Bull→
Bull and Chunky both start with high Max HP and massive durability, but Bull converts incoming damage into explosions and cannot equip weapons. If you enjoy face-tanking with huge HP pools, both characters scratch a similar itch with different offensive mechanics.

Lich→
Lich also plays around healing and Max HP, triggering damage when healing procs. While Chunky lacks life steal and focuses on consumables, both characters scale off large health pools and frequent healing events.
