Brotato Masochist Build Guide
Masochist Build & Strategie
Is Masochist good in Brotato?
Masochist is a strong scaling tank who turns damage taken into permanent wave damage, excelling in long fights and Endless runs if you build enough regeneration and armor. The early game is weak due to -100% damage, but once self-damage engines come online, Masochist becomes a powerful, durable brawler.
Strengths
- Huge base survivability with bonus Max HP, HP Regeneration and Armor
- Damage naturally scales every time you take a hit, synergizing with self-damage items and weapons
- Very stable in long waves and Endless mode once regeneration and armor are stacked
- Works extremely well with self-damage sources like Scythe, Blood Donation and Bloody Hand
Weaknesses
- Brutally weak early game because of -100% Damage until you build up stacks and stats
- Relies heavily on HP Regeneration and defensive stats to safely leverage self-damage
- Can struggle with ranged enemies and bosses if you neglect mobility or damage multipliers
- Greedy self-damage setups are risky if you mismanage positioning or overstack curse/self-harm
Masochist Stats & Passive Ability
Masochist starts with cripplingly low damage (-100% Damage) but gains +5% Damage every time he takes a hit, lasting until the end of the wave. Combined with +10 Max HP, +20 HP Regeneration and +8 Armor, he is built to stand in the middle of danger and use incoming hits as a scaling engine instead of something to avoid. Your core playstyle is to stack even more survivability (Max HP, HP Regeneration, Armor, sometimes Dodge) and then add controlled self-damage sources so you can ramp up damage quickly each wave. Early on you must play carefully and use efficient scaling weapons like Ghost Axe to punch through the -100% damage penalty. Once you have solid regeneration and armor, you can deliberately take repeated hits to skyrocket your damage and let melee weapons, explosion effects and on-hit projectiles clean up waves, especially in Endless where your scaling really shines.

🌱Early Game
Lean on Ghost Axe to offset the -100% damage penalty and start stacking damage via kills while you slowly scale HP Regeneration and Armor. Take controlled hits so Masochist’s passive and Ghost Axe scaling both ramp up, but avoid overcommitting to self-damage until your regeneration is stable.
⚡Mid Game
Transition into heavier melee options like Power Fist and Drill while using Mammoth and cursed items to massively boost Melee Damage and keep your damage scaling high. Self-damage effects maintain Masochist’s passive stacks, so your goal is to stand your ground with solid Armor and HP Regeneration while your hits and explosions clear the map.
🔥Late Game & Endless
In late waves and Endless, pivot into high-scaling weapons like DEX-troyer and Scythe, supported by Ghost Flint and Ghost Axe for extra attack speed and damage scaling. Stack economy and luck tools such as Lucky Coin and Treasure Map to keep money and crates flowing while your self-damage engines and massive melee hits shred tanky elites and bosses.
Best weapons for Masochist
Spiky Shield pairs perfectly with Masochist’s defensive stat line, letting you stack Armor, Max HP and HP Regeneration while turning your blocks and proximity into reliable damage over time. Its defensive scaling matches Masochist’s kit, making it ideal for safe Endless runs.
Ghost Axe adds its own kill-based damage scaling on top of Masochist’s on-hit damage bonus, allowing you to overcome the -100% Damage penalty and snowball hard during each wave. It shines early and remains strong if you keep waves dense and stay aggressive.
Ghost Flint gives scaling Attack Speed per kill, which means more hits, more self-damage triggers exploited and faster application of Masochist’s damage stacks. It is excellent for smoothing out your clear speed once your regen and armor are online.
Power Fist’s explosions benefit from Masochist’s rapidly scaling damage and help clear dense packs that are constantly hitting you. It fits perfectly into a brawling, close-range setup where you are already tanking hits for extra damage.
Scythe directly feeds Masochist’s passive by dealing self-damage and adding even more damage when you get hit. This creates a powerful feedback loop where your stats spike each wave and turn you into a whirling blender in the middle of enemies.
DEX-troyer gives both explosions and bouncing lightning, multiplying the impact of your stacked damage. It scales exceptionally well into Endless waves where there are many enemies to bounce between, making your high-damage hits clear entire screens.
Drill ramps Attack Speed over each wave and adds economy via crit kills, which synergizes with Masochist’s long-wave brawling playstyle. More Attack Speed means more hits and better use of your ever-increasing damage from taking hits.
Best items for Masochist (core item pool)
Blood Donation adds passive self-damage that constantly triggers Masochist’s damage bonus while also giving strong Harvesting to scale your economy. With Masochist’s huge HP Regeneration and Armor, the self-damage is manageable and becomes a damage engine.
Bloody Hand combines Life Steal-based damage scaling with self-damage that continually feeds Masochist’s passive. It turns your sustain into raw power and fits perfectly into any build that already stacks HP Regeneration and tank stats.
Sad Tomato grants a massive chunk of HP Regeneration, which Masochist can easily exploit to offset both enemy hits and self-damage. Starting at half HP is much less dangerous for such a tanky character and helps you quickly ramp your damage bonus.
Mammoth is a premium melee-stat package, giving huge Melee Damage and extra HP Regeneration that Masochist loves. The small Damage % penalty is easily offset by your passive, while the knockback helps control crowds as you sit in the middle taking hits.
Fish Hook increases your access to cursed items, which often come with powerful stat lines Masochist can afford thanks to his tankiness. This accelerates your scaling and lets you more consistently find self-damage tools and high-impact offensive pieces.
Medikit significantly boosts HP Regeneration and adds even more over time during waves, directly supporting Masochist’s self-damage and face-tanking playstyle. The Luck penalty is manageable given how much survivability you gain.
Shackles adds HP Regeneration and Engineering on top of a large Range boost, which helps both melee and utility weapons. Speed being capped matters less for a thick frontliner like Masochist who plans to stand their ground and soak hits.
Extra Stomach gives Masochist a reliable way to stack Max HP over time, further reinforcing his identity as a high-HP tank. More Max HP means you can take more hits to trigger your passive without risking sudden deaths.
Plant is a cheap and efficient HP Regeneration boost, exactly what Masochist needs to keep up with self-damage and enemy hits. The small Life Steal loss is a minor drawback compared to the sustain you gain.
Jerky improves the sustain gained from consumables, giving Masochist more healing over time which works well with his high Max HP and constant chip damage. The delayed heal is fine when you are already very tanky.
Lumberjack Shirt makes trees trivial to clear, which is great for a melee tank constantly roaming the map. More trees popped means more crates, consumables and resources to fuel Masochist’s scaling.
Treasure Map amplifies crate rewards, synergizing with Masochist’s survivability that lets him reliably reach and clear crates. More items per run means more chances at key regen, armor and self-damage pieces.
Lucky Coin converts Crit Chance into large amounts of Luck, greatly improving shop and crate quality. Masochist can afford the Armor penalty thanks to his already high base Armor, turning this into a strong scaling and economy tool.
Masochist High-Difficulty & Endless Strategy
Early Game
In the early waves, your -100% Damage is your biggest problem, so prioritize safe damage and survivability over greed. Focus on HP Regeneration, Armor and some Max HP while picking up scaling melee weapons like Ghost Axe or Ghost Flint to slowly overcome the damage penalty. Take only controlled hits—stand near small enemy packs rather than diving into elites—and avoid stacking too many self-damage sources until your regeneration comfortably out-heals them.
Mid Game
Once your HP Regeneration and Armor are solid, start adding intentional self-damage pieces such as Scythe, Blood Donation and Bloody Hand so you rapidly trigger Masochist’s +5% Damage-on-hit passive. Pivot into stronger melee or explosive weapons like Power Fist, Drill and DEX-troyer, and consider luck/economy items (Treasure Map, Lucky Coin, Bean Teacher) to keep shop upgrades flowing. Position yourself near the densest enemy clusters to maximize both your damage stacks and Ghost weapon kill scaling.
Late Game
In late-game and Endless, you should be an unkillable tank with high damage that snowballs during each wave. Maintain a balance between extra self-damage and defensive stats so you can comfortably stand in crowds and face-tank elites without dropping too low. Use your high Attack Speed and AoE (Power Fist, DEX-troyer, Alien Eyes) to instantly clear packs, and keep investing in HP Regeneration, Armor and Max HP so scaling enemies and bosses cannot burst you down.
💡 Masochist thrives on high-difficulty and Endless runs by turning incoming hits into a potent damage engine. Play conservatively early, focusing on regeneration and armor until you can safely add self-damage items that constantly trigger your passive. From mid-game onwards, stand your ground in dense packs with powerful melee and explosive weapons, letting your damage and sustain scale far beyond what most characters can sustain.
