Is Wounded good in Brotato?

Wounded is a high-skill, high-damage challenge character. You die in one hit, but in exchange you get strong economy, a Tardigrade and a very focused damage item pool. In capable hands, Wounded is powerful on high difficulties, but extremely punishing for mistakes.

💪

Strengths

  • Very high damage potential because you can ignore most defensive stats
  • Starts with Tardigrade, effectively giving you one free mistake each wave
  • Extra Speed and Harvesting provide strong early economy and kiting
  • Shop is filtered away from most defensive “dead” items, increasing the odds of good economy and damage options
  • Synergises well with guns and other long-range weapons that kill threats before they reach you
⚠️

Weaknesses

  • Dies in a single hit once Tardigrade charges are gone – tiny movement mistakes end the run
  • Defensive stats like Armor, Max HP, HP Regeneration and Life Steal are mostly irrelevant
  • Dodge is numerically inefficient for survival compared to other characters
  • Cursed and high-HP enemies that spawn close can be hard to clear in time
  • Very map- and pattern-dependent on Nightmare: bad projectile patterns or darkness waves can quickly snowball into a loss

🎮

Wounded plays like an extreme glass cannon. You effectively have 1 HP, backed by a single Tardigrade hit each wave, so your defense comes from killing everything before it can touch you. The bonus Speed and Harvesting help you get an early economy lead and position aggressively to farm kills, while the shop filter removes many defensive items that would be dead picks anyway. Because you die in one hit, you should avoid investing heavily into traditional sustain stats and instead stack raw damage, flat Melee or Ranged Damage (depending on build), Attack Speed and Range. Dodge exists as a backup layer but provides fewer extra “hits” than on normal characters, so it’s a luxury rather than a priority. Most successful Wounded builds are gun-based or otherwise long-range, focused on deleting high-threat enemies and elites off-screen before they can launch attacks.

Strategy

🌱Early Game (Waves 1–6): Establish Economy & Safe DPS

Open with SMG if possible and immediately commit to a ranged gun build. Your early priorities are basic Ranged Damage, at least one Attack Speed roll, and a few Harvesting or XP items so you don’t fall behind. Because you die in one hit, gun range effectively becomes a defensive stat: pick up Range upgrades and items like Glasses or Scope earlier than you would on other characters so you can kill enemies before they reach you. Try to buy extra SMGs early and add a single Laser Gun or Revolver as soon as you see one. The SMGs clear trash mobs, while the higher-DPS single-target gun deletes bulky threats. Pick economy items that don’t hurt offense (Scar, Bag, Coupon, Treasure Map) and avoid Curse-heavy options this early, as cursed elites and buffed enemies can overwhelm your limited clear.

⚡Mid Game (Waves 7–13): Range, Piercing & Elite Control

Mid game is where Wounded usually dies. Your goal is to keep killing elites and high-HP spawns the moment they appear. Stack flat Ranged Damage and percent Damage, then scale Attack Speed so SMGs and support guns can shred waves instantly. Range continues to be premium: items like Scope, Glasses, Gummy Berserker and Banner noticeably increase how early you connect shots, giving more time to react to projectiles. Start adding clear tools: Small Magazine, Bandana, Pumpkin or Sharp Bullet (if you’re not over-invested in pierce already) massively improve wave control, especially on horde and summoner waves. Silver Bullet greatly accelerates elite kills and is worth buying as soon as you can afford it. Avoid unnecessary Curse from items like Black Flag unless your build feels comfortably ahead; cursed enemies spawning on top of you are often fatal. Play waves from the side of the map opposite to environmental projectiles, and reposition towards summoners or eggs as soon as they spawn so they can’t flood the screen with dangerous mobs.

🔥Late Game (Waves 14–20+): Boss Burst & One-Hit Discipline

In the late game you should already have 5–6 solid guns and most of your core items. The focus shifts from farming to making boss and elite waves trivial. Double down on high-value percent Damage and crit sources such as Cyclops Worm, Head Injury, Tentacle, Triangle of Power, Silver Bullet and Power Generator (with enough permanent Speed). Make sure you still have enough Range to fight safely in darkness waves and to kill summoners and horned chargers before they fill the screen with projectiles. Play boss waves with extreme discipline: position far from the spawn, let your guns melt bosses before they can fully set up patterns, and never greed materials if it would push you close to danger. Your Tardigrade is not a “license to tank” but an emergency buffer; if it pops, immediately switch into ultra-conservative movement using short, controlled taps and central positioning. On Nightmare or pseudo-Endless runs, you can experiment with Curse-scaling and high-end items like Seashell, Ricochet or Explosive Shells for more clear, but only after your single-target DPS is strong enough to delete elites on sight.

Best weapons for Wounded

SMG is the safest and most consistent primary weapon for Wounded: high fire rate, easy crowd control and strong scaling from Ranged Damage, Attack Speed and Range let you erase threats before they can touch you. Its constant stream of bullets also works well with on-hit effects and pierce/bounce support.

Ranged DamageAttack SpeedRangeCrit Chance

Laser Gun offers excellent single-target DPS with inherent piercing, perfect for deleting early elites, cursed champions and bulky chargers. Combining 1–2 Lasers with multiple SMGs gives Wounded a strong balance between area clear and priority target damage.

Ranged DamagePercent DamageAttack SpeedRange

Revolver fires slower than SMG but has very high per-shot damage, making it ideal for finishing off elites and bosses. On Wounded, one or two Revolvers mixed into a gun line can significantly shorten dangerous waves where letting elite patterns play out would be risky.

Ranged DamageCrit ChancePercent DamageAttack Speed

Blunderbuss is a strong sidearm for Wounded once you have decent pickup range: resetting its cooldown by collecting materials allows huge burst windows against elites and bosses while still contributing to wave clear thanks to pierce.

Ranged DamageAttack SpeedPickup RangePercent Damage

Sniper Gun synergises perfectly with the long-range, don’t-get-touched philosophy. Its huge range lets you delete elites and buffed enemies long before they’re on screen, and the additional spawned projectiles provide strong secondary damage.

Best items for Wounded (core item pool)

By default Wounded starts with one Tardigrade, effectively giving you a single mistake each wave. Stacking extra copies greatly increases consistency on Nightmare, letting you survive misplays, sudden elite dashes or stray projectiles without losing the run.

Elites and bosses are the most dangerous moments for Wounded because you can’t afford to play out long patterns. Silver Bullet directly boosts your damage against them, enabling you to delete threats quickly before they flood the arena with projectiles.

Small Magazine is almost tailor-made for SMG gun builds: flat Ranged Damage and Attack Speed dramatically increase DPS, and the minor percent Damage penalty is negligible once you have multiple multipliers. More bullets and harder hits mean fewer enemies live long enough to threaten you.

Attack Speed is one of the best stats on Wounded, especially with fast-firing weapons like SMG or slow, heavy hitters like Railgun. Coffee is a cheap way to get a big early boost in fire rate so waves never get out of control.

Both stats are perfect for Wounded: Attack Speed for damage, Range for staying safe. The Armor downside is completely irrelevant because you die in one hit anyway, making this item all upside.

A very efficient source of percent Damage for ranged builds. The small Range penalty is offset by other Range items; overall it’s a great way to scale your guns so they keep up with Nightmare enemy HP.

Provides a big percent Damage spike in exchange for a modest Range hit. On Wounded you already invest heavily into Range from other sources, so you can afford the penalty while enjoying much faster elite and boss kills.

Scope directly reinforces the main defensive idea: kill everything far away. It adds both Range and flat Ranged Damage, making your SMGs and other guns more lethal across the screen. The Attack Speed loss is acceptable once you’ve stacked other sources.

Simple but vital for Wounded’s play pattern. Extra Range gives you more reaction time against new spawns, pufferfish explosions and charging enemies, and it makes darkness waves much safer when combined with high-damage guns.

On Wounded you should never plan to take hits, so the downside is effectively irrelevant. In return you gain a large flat percent Damage bonus that massively improves boss and elite kill speeds.

Wounded already starts with bonus Speed and often buys more to kite and pick up materials. Power Generator turns that Speed into a strong scaling Damage multiplier, ideal for long Nightmare or Endless attempts.

In dodge-focused Railgun builds this hoodie converts the Dodge you’re already buying for damage into a massive Attack Speed buff. The Range penalty is significant, so you must pair it with multiple Range items, but the final Railgun DPS can be enormous.

Wounded High-Difficulty Strategy

🌱

Early Game

On high difficulty or Nightmare, focus the early waves on getting a stable gun line online. Prioritise SMGs and at least one high-DPS support gun (Laser Gun or Revolver), then buy flat Ranged Damage, one or two Attack Speed upgrades, and a handful of economy items like Scar, Bag or Coupon. Because defenses are filtered from the shop, you’ll naturally see more damage and economy – embrace this and avoid Curse-heavy picks until your wave clear is reliable.

⚡

Mid Game

In mid game, invest aggressively into Range and crowd-control tools. Items like Glasses, Scope, Banner, Gummy Berserker, Small Magazine, Bandana and Pumpkin make horde and summoner waves manageable. Silver Bullet should be grabbed as soon as possible to trivialise elites. Always play from the safe side of the map relative to environmental projectiles, and prioritise killing summoners, eggs and enhanced shooters before they can fill the screen with dangerous patterns.

🔥

Late Game

Late game revolves around deleting elites and bosses before they can really fight back. Stack high-impact percent Damage (Cyclops Worm, Head Injury, Triangle of Power, Power Generator) and crit (Tentacle, Sunglasses, Insanity) on top of your flat Ranged Damage. Secure at least one or two extra Tardigrades if possible, then play boss waves conservatively: stay far away, let your guns do the work and never greed for crates or materials if it would push you into melee or projectile range.

💡 Wounded excels when you treat damage and range as your only real defenses. Build long-range gun setups that erase threats as they appear, use your Tardigrade charges as rare emergency tools rather than something to trade regularly, and plan your shopping around elite and boss waves. With disciplined movement and ruthless targeting, Wounded can clear even the hardest modes despite dying to a single mistake.

Wounded FAQ

1How do I unlock Wounded in Brotato?▼

Wounded is unlocked by winning a run in Nightmare difficulty. Once you’ve beaten Nightmare with any character, Wounded becomes available and you can start experimenting with one-hit-death builds.

2Which weapons are best for Wounded?▼

The most reliable choice is a gun build with multiple SMGs plus 1–2 high-DPS guns like Laser Gun, Revolver, Blunderbuss or Sniper Gun to handle elites and bosses. For a more advanced option you can run a dedicated Railgun build scaling Dodge, but it is harder to play due to shorter range and slower firing.

3Is Dodge good on Wounded?▼

Dodge is much weaker defensively on Wounded than on other characters because you still die in one hit and only get a limited number of chances for Dodge to matter. It becomes more attractive in Railgun builds where it directly scales weapon damage or when combined with items like Retromation's Hoodie, but for standard gun builds you should prioritise Ranged Damage, Attack Speed and Range first.

4What stats should I prioritise on level-ups?▼

For gun builds prioritise flat Ranged Damage, Attack Speed and Range, followed by percent Damage and Crit Chance. Dodge is a luxury stat unless you’re using Railgun. Avoid investing in Max HP, HP Regeneration, Life Steal or Armor, as they do not help much when you die in one hit.

5How should I deal with elites and bosses as Wounded?▼

Plan your build around deleting elites quickly. Buy items like Silver Bullet and Triangle of Power, use a mix of SMGs and high-damage guns, and play from maximum range so bosses die before they can fire many patterns. In elite waves, focus-positioning on their spawn side and use pierce/bounce items so adds don’t clog the screen while you burn the main target.
