What does Curse do in Brotato?

Curse is the Abyssal Terrors DLC primary stat – and unlike every other stat, it's a deliberate tradeoff. Curse gives enemies a chance to spawn 'cursed' (purple outline). Cursed enemies have +25% Damage, +15% Speed, and +150% HP (+2% per Curse stat), but they drop +33% materials when killed. Curse also makes shop items have a chance to roll cursed: their bonuses get multiplied by 1.1–2.1× (curse ratio), their downsides get divided by it, and they grant some Curse stat in return. Sailor and Captain are built around Curse; Naval-class weapons grant +Curse and scale damage with it.

Curse Mechanics & Edge Cases

  • Cursed enemy chance: 50 × Curse / (50 + Curse). Caps at ~50% chance.
  • Cursed shop item chance: 15 × Curse / (50 + Curse). Caps at ~15%.
  • Cursed enemies get +25% Damage, +15% Speed, +150% HP +2% per Curse stat (caps at 300 Curse).
  • Cursed enemies drop +33% additional materials.
  • Curse Ratio (item enhancement): 1.4 + random(-0.3, +0.3) + 0.02 × min(wave, 20). Maxes at 1.5–2.1 from wave 20 onward.
  • Co-op: cursed-enemy HP uses the SUM of all players' Curse. Curse chance uses the AVERAGE.
  • Endless Mode: Curse chance scales with the Endless Factor and quickly reaches 100%.

Curse Tips & Strategy

Tip 1: On Sailor (+25 starting Curse) every Naval weapon is a damage scaler – stack Curse early.
Tip 2: Captain + Curse + Naval weapons compound brutally – build around the cursed buff, not against it.
Tip 3: Cursed shop items are usually worth taking – the curse penalty is small per item.
Tip 4: Co-op multiplies Curse pain – be careful stacking Sailor + Sailor.
Tip 5: Sirius (the 0-Curse character) is the only character who's actively punished for ANY Curse – avoid Curse items entirely.

Curse FAQ

What does Curse do in Brotato?

Curse makes enemies have a chance to spawn 'cursed' (purple outline) with +25% Damage, +15% Speed, and +150% HP (+2% per Curse). Cursed enemies drop +33% materials. Shop items also get a chance to spawn cursed – their bonuses scale up 1.1–2.1× and downsides shrink, in exchange for granting some Curse stat.

Is Curse good in Brotato?

On Sailor, Captain, and Naval-weapon builds – yes, it's their primary scaling stat. On every other character it's a high-risk tradeoff that can spike enemy difficulty more than it pays off.

Does Curse work in Co-op Brotato?

Yes, but it stacks. The HP buff on cursed enemies sums BOTH players' Curse stat, while the chance to curse averages them. Two Sailors in co-op make every cursed enemy effectively a mini-boss.

What is the best Curse character in Brotato?

Sailor (starts with 25 Curse and 200% damage with Naval weapons against cursed enemies). Captain stacks weapon-based curse damage and works with Naval Boarding Pike.
