Primary Stat

Brotato Attack Speed

Attack x% faster with weapons. Strongest scaling stat for fast multi-projectile builds.

Effect

You attack x% faster with weapons. 100% Attack Speed = double fire rate.

Limit

Diminishing returns at high values. Cannot exceed 12 attacks/second; melee weapons cap lower.

Negative

Increases weapon cooldown via a different (less punishing) formula.

What does Attack Speed do in Brotato?

Attack Speed multiplies how often your weapons fire. 100% Attack Speed halves your weapon cooldown (you attack twice as fast). It's a powerful damage AND survivability stat: faster attacks proc more Life Steal, clear hordes faster, and reduce the time enemies have to close the gap. Negative Attack Speed uses a different formula and is much less punishing than positive AS is rewarding – fast melee weapons like Fist barely lose 14% fire rate at -100% AS, while a Nuclear Launcher loses 46%.

Attack Speed Mechanics & Edge Cases

  • 100% AS = half cooldown / double fire rate.
  • Positive AS has diminishing returns – fast ranged weapons (SMG, Minigun, Flamethrower) start hitting them quickly.
  • Negative AS uses a different, milder formula – slow weapons are hit harder than fast ones.
  • AS does NOT affect turrets, Cyberball, Baby with a Beard, or Rip and Tear.
  • Melee weapons get a small AS hit when you have high Range (longer travel distance).
  • Ball and Chain enforces a 0.75s minimum cooldown floor. A cursed Ball and Chain bypasses the floor.

Attack Speed Tips & Strategy

Tip 1: On Crazy and Loud, Attack Speed compounds with Heavy/Damage – it's the highest-impact stat slot.
Tip 2: On burst weapons (Sniper Rifle, Crossbow), AS quickly hits diminishing returns – pivot to Crit and Damage.
Tip 3: Glutton, One Armed, and Wildling all interact with Attack Speed via their identity – plan loadouts around it.
Tip 4: Drill grants 20% Attack Speed until end of wave on hit – snowballs hard with multi-shot weapons.

Attack Speed FAQ

What is the Brotato Attack Speed cap?

12 attacks per second is the hard ceiling for ranged weapons. Melee weapons cap lower. Diminishing returns kick in earlier on already-fast weapons (SMG, Minigun, Flamethrower) – the first 50–100% AS is great, much beyond that gets weak fast.

Does Attack Speed work on turrets in Brotato?

No. Attack Speed does NOT affect Engineering structures, Cyberball, Baby with a Beard, or Rip and Tear. For turret fire rate use the % Structure Attack Speed secondary stat.

Is Attack Speed better than Damage in Brotato?

Early game yes, late game it depends on weapon. Fast weapons hit AS diminishing returns quickly so % Damage scales better. Burst weapons love both. On Crazy / Loud, AS compounds insanely – stack early.

Why does Ball and Chain limit Attack Speed?

Ball and Chain enforces a 0.75-second minimum cooldown on every weapon. A cursed Ball and Chain bypasses this floor, making it suddenly viable on more builds.
